Our Billy Haugh Construction Experience

We hired Haugh Building & Construction Ltd in December 2022. Work started on our house in February 2023. It's now April May June 2024, the work has stalled and is still unfinished.
This page is still under construction, much like our house.
However, here is some starting information. We met Billy Haugh, who at the time was co-owner of Haugh Building & Construction Ltd with Ruth Haugh, in November 2022. We note that Ruth Haugh resigned as a Director of the company in December 2023, although she remains as a shareholder.
Work started on 07/02/2023. We have had rear and side extensions added, with two rooms knocked together at the back of the house. Lots of steel work holding the house together. The work also involved removing the chimney and chimney breast. Some serious work indeed!
The Schedule
On 15/11/2022 Mr Haugh provided a work schedule, as follows:
Dig and pour concrete rear extension 1 week
Build rear extension 2 weeks
Side extension dig and concrete 1 week
Build side extension 1 week
Both roofs 2 weeks
Internal alterations 3 weeks
Plumbing 1 week
Exterior works 2 weeks
Finishing 1 week
We were optimistic and realistic. This was a 14 week schedule and we felt that work was likely to over-run. We had some changes to the steelwork which added about six weeks to the schedule. What we didn't anticipate was that 14 weeks would turn into 14 15 months and counting.
It all seemed to start so well...

Work started on 7th February 2023, with the foundations at the rear of the house.

By 17th March 2023 we were feeling optimistic, and Billy Haugh seemed to be working to a schedule.
And then...

It's now 25th April 2023 and Billy Haugh has completed the roof on the rear extension and the chimney pot has gone.

Two days later on 27th April 2023 and Billy Haugh left the roof like this. He came back later to sort it out once we contacted him.

We got to 8th June 2023 and you can see the temporary fix for the roof. Billy Haugh offered no explanation for the delay in sorting out the roof, and there was nothing holding up the final repair. Click on the picture for a larger version.

Billy Haugh completed a temporary fix on 16th June 2023. If you click on the picture to see the enlargement, you will notice that there are not enough slates.

This is the roof on 30th April 2024. Over a year since Billy Haugh removed the chimney, and we're still waiting.
Building Regs
And then you find out that some of the work that Billy Haugh has done does not meet building regs. You end up with a list of items from your building inspector which have to be rectified. At cost. Within a set timeframe. The critical one is a roof which has been incorrectly insulated.
